Carrying out the GAME Plan

In order to carry out my plan, I must research ways that I can integrate technology into my lesson plans. I must remember that technology is not the goal but that it is used to support the skills and benchmarks that I am teaching. I need to collaborate with my grade level team so that we may work together towards the same goal. The learning strategies I will be using are integrating technology into my lessons and assessments for students using the technology.

The additional information that I will need is to talk to my school technology facilitator. I will need to consult this person so that I learn about the technology tools that I will be implementing. Some technology tools I am not knowledgeable about and I want to feel comfortable utilizing them before I bring them into the classroom.

A step that I have been able to take is to collaborate with my grade level team. We have started with one subject area and that is science. We have started gathering Internet websites and other online resources that correlate to the unit we are studying and we are beginning to pull activities together that the students will be able to do. Science is one of those subjects that you just can’t read and learn but you must experience and use manipulatives in order to gain better understanding.

  1. I find that it's a great idea to collaborate with your School Technology Facilitator. I have one at my school and she is very busy, but also very helpful. She always comes into our rooms if we want her to video tape or assist us in technology. That person is definitely your greatest resource. I'm also very glad to hear that you are using your colleagues in collecting websites to use. When you think together then you're bound to find the answers. I have found that brainpop.com is one of my favorite sites to really engage my students.

  2. Science seems like a great course for using technology when experiments and labs aren't possible. Have you all been able to find many simulations? What kind of resources are available?
I know in social studies we are fortunate to have many great virtual field trips and activities. I hope you are as lucky!

  3. Great ways to model collaboration! You are lucky that your co-workers are willing to work together on accomplishing this goal. By working together to search for resources you will effectively compile a large amount to pull from in a short period of time. In science especially, there are so many fantastic resources available on the Internet that I can't imagine sifting through it all alone. It would take ages. Good luck and keep us up to date on your progress.

  4. Hi,

It is great that you have the luck to collaborate with your colleagues. This is great not only for you, but for the outcome of the effort of your students too. Online resources that you mention are great but you must have time to sort those that are of poorer quality out of those that are good. That is why I consider your cooperation valuable.

  5. Hi Sarah,

What is great about teaching science is that when taught with experiments and demonstrations, it all seems to make sense.
